Paul is turning another number today. We went out to breakfast this morning-- did you see us? We were the ones with the well-behaved child.
"Remember a year ago when it was excruciating to take him anywhere? It's so much better now."
"Yeah. I remember."
He looks so tired these days. Work can be kind of heavy. Having a family can be double heavy. And then there's school at night. Phew.
"Look how nice that house is. I bet the people living there are very happy."
(snorts) "Yeah. I'm sure they are."
Tonight we are going to the park to listen to the symphony and eat a picnic that I will most likely buy and not make. For his birthday he got a new wallet. It's from Blissen and made by the one and only Jill Bliss. He is retiring his Poketo wallet with the Susie Ghahremani graphics. He liked that one a lot and told me he received lots of complements on it (particularly from women). I don't think it was made to be a "back pocket" wallet, and so its time has come. He can throw his new one in the wash AND it has a picture of squirrels on it--which he's particularly fond of. I think they are rat-like and bad. See? Isn't it good that we're married? I'm just happy he's man enough to carry around a wallet made out of vintage sheets. Happy Birthday to You.
