I don't remember exactly what we did on our days off before we had children. I think we used to sleep or maybe go to movies. I vaguely remember spending time together outdoors holding hands. After we got the house, we spent a lot of time feeling guilty about the things we weren't getting done. But I think there were still movies. At any rate, it doesn't really matter because now there is panicky sort of pressure to get those days right and that panic so often leads to tears and frustration-- mostly from Sam, but sometimes from me.
Mid-afternoon yesterday we were heading down the road to "uh, is it 8 yet?" when all of my "computering" paid off for once and I went straight to Papercraft World for some help. It linked directly here and I got to printing out paper food and little baskets, while Paul got to building our Lincoln Log (thanks be to the Chicken for those) grocery store. Sam and his Playmobil people were thrilled-- Gabrielle, Seattle, Alicia, Roger and Farmer Uncle Joe all got their fake shopping done in record time. The food stuffs/baskets are the perfect size for Playmobil people-- the key was to get started on it before Sam knew what I was doing so I could stay ahead of his demands for more cutting and pasting. So now I'm all hot for sites like this, and projects like this one. I printed it all out on cheap matte photo paper and used regular paper scissors to cut it out. This was not a precision project. I know I'm late to the paper party, but I feel like I've arrived in the nick of time. As much as I hate to admit it, we have a winter full of tenuous Saturdays to get through and the last thing I want to bring in the house are more toys, etc. Hallelujah for the sort that can get recycled along with yesterdays paper.
