The insurance company called our truck a total and withing three days we had a cheque for more than we could ever get selling it privately prior to having a big chunk taken out the side. Chalk this one in the rarely used insurance-as-the-good-guys column.
We're getting a Bakfiets. Or at least, I hope we are. It's a European cargo bike designed to transport whole families around town. And it's pretty sweet. This is a rental that we got for the weekend (they are out of them until the middle of August so we have to bide our time until then) and we miss it already. We had been discussing a way of doing more family biking with the baby as a way to replace using the car so much. Paul already bike commutes the nearly 20 miles to and from work and Sam is no stranger to the bike trailer. I'm not so handy with either the commuting or the trailer (read: big baby), but this I can do. Happily, they are becoming more mainstream in town-- thanks to Clever Cycles, the high price of gas, and Portland's growing bike/car-free culture. Unhappily, I look like a crazy person riding it. If you see us practicing with cones and flashing lights in some parking lot, you'll know why.
