We are heading out to u-pick blueberries this morning and I will be wearing this hat. It's a first go out of the Check and Stripe book (ISBN 978-4-08-780485-0) Mariko lent me (I went over to look for a pattern and swiped two of her brand new books. I'm a good friend), and the first of several projects that I'm going to try before I give it back. The hat is big, good, and clearly much cuter in the book's picture (it's the angle, damn it). Now that I have the basics down, I'm going to try it again changing up the fabric (busy much?) and the pattern. Little tip: don't let Miss Petite in the book fool you, it's plenty big and even too big for the small heads among us.

Further proof that the Japanese do it up right:
Checkstripehat

Checkstripebag
Checkstripecoat
Edited to say: I think Mariko bought both of these books Kinokuniya here in Portland.  Here it is listed on Amazon Japan.
